With summer here, our family is headed on our first vacation in 5 years! We are very excited, and I’ve been collecting ideas and getting things ready. As I created my new kit, I thought how fun it would be to use pieces of the kit for a travel binder and activities! And I want to share with you how easy it is to think outside of scrapbooking and use these kits in a numerous of other ways!
To start with, I used my kit from last Fall called “Piggies and Birds”:
to create a game to mix and match faces on the pig and birds. I created a page with a background paper and the birds and one of the pigs. Then I put all the face pieces on a separate sheet and printed them both. I still need to laminate them, but you get the basic idea! I keep the face pieces in a little baggie and the kids will be able to mix and match the faces around and create whatever looks they want!
Another game I created is a family favorite!
We love to keep track of the different license plates we see as we drive! This way they can circle the ones we see and each have their own record:
And here is the binder:
The last thing I made to go with all of it is something to hold it in! Now, I am not a sewer! I prefer to do my crafts as much on the computer as possible! But I also wanted to create a hanging thing to put the activities in. Years ago, I bought all the stuff to make one and got overwhelmed by all the instructions! So, I knew if this was going to work, I needed simple!
I purchased a simple beach towel at walmart for $3. It was thin which was perfect! You wouldn’t want anything too thick! Then I cut it in half. I folded up the half with the border up 3/4’s of the way and sewed down each side. Then I sewed to make the pockets, added the ribbon and it was done! So easy!
The ribbon ties on the seat in front and there you go! Easy to place the binder, a water bottle and colored pencils or markers in. And so easy to wash at the end of a trip!
What vacation plans do you have coming up? What little hacks will make your trip smoother and more fun?
