Staying connected as your family grows can be a bit of a challenge! Social Media is a great resource to tap into. Here are all the in’s and out’s of creating a family Facebook group that can be a great asset in pulling you all together!
I honestly have no idea how long this idea will be a good one before things change (technologically speaking) and Facebook groups become obsolete! But for the time being, I think this is an amazing way to stay connected! No matter where your family is as far as size and ages, if there is more than you and your husband, a private FB group can be awesome!
Setting it up
Setting up the account is easy. Simply go to Facebook and on the left hand side, click on Groups. It will open up to all the groups you currently are a part of but in the top right hand corner there will be a little green button.
It will then open a box for you to fill out:
Name your group and add your family members.
The next section will be about the level of privacy you want. Click on the drop down menu and choose private:
And one last thing, for my super important groups, I like to add them to my shortcuts so they show up on my left hand menu. Simply click that little button:
Now click Create and you are on your way! The next step will be to choose a little symbol or you can skip it:
Your Family Group is officially created!
Customizing the Group
Once you have it created, you can now go to work on customizing it and making it home! Upload a family photo or fun photo in the timeline section. Edit the different sections to tell what the group is about.
Posting in the Group
Now you can start posting! You may want a simple welcome post to let everyone in your family know what you created and why! As the admin of the group, I would suggest posting at least once a day to get things started and create the habit. You can share fun memes, ask a question, create a poll (what should we serve for Thanksgiving Dinner?) and so on! The options are endless!
Most of all, have fun with this! It’s a great way to connect and have daily conversations no matter the miles between any of you!
