This is a project I am super excited to share! I learned this technique a few years ago and have used it often since then! It makes great gifts and wonderful home decor! My girls were so excited when I finished this project and fought over which one got to hang it on their wall!
The video below will show the quick steps to create this, but I will walk you through with more detailed ones here. It’s helpful to first read through these, watch the video and then refer back to these steps when you get ready to make your own!
For starters, I used this printable, available in our shop here:
I purchased an 8×10 canvas for $5.99 at my local craft store, along with a foam brush, a regular paintbrush, red paint and mod podge.
I opened it in pdf format and printed it from my home printer. I made sure to unmark the black and white box and mark the fit box. I just needed enough of it to fit at 8×10 since that was the size of my canvas.
After printing, I placed the canvas on my print and drew the size of the canvas around the back of my printed cardstock. I made sure that it was centered how I wanted it.
I cut around the lines and spread modpodge on the back of my print and on the canvas and stuck together.
I let this dry for about 20 minutes, placing a stack of heavy books on top to weigh it down. It will bubble a bit, don’t worry about this.
After it has mostly dried, I added modpodge to the front of the canvas, covering the print. Be careful not to get it to wet because you don’t want it to smear your ink. Even if you need to apply a thin coat and let dry and add more a few minutes later. It won’t hurt to take this step slow and carefully.
Let dry completely (although in the video it looks like I do it all at once)
Paint red paint on the sides of your canvas and let it come up around your edges a bit. You can be the judge of how much you want. Again, let dry completely and you are done!
The bubbles will disappear when the drying is fully complete!
