Do you have a favorite hobby that you love to do in your spare time but also think you might be ready to share it with the world? Then you are in the right place!
I know exactly where you are! Ten years ago, I started switching from paper scrapping to digital scrapping and I was HOOKED! I couldn’t get enough! I remember going to bed at night with ideas swirling in my head so much that I could barely shut it off enough to sleep! I loved how life changing it was for me to have everything on my computer! And I wanted to learn all I could about this new hobby.
As things grew, I found myself wanting to share my work with others and I also wanted to learn how to create my own scrapbook papers and elements. I bought my first version of Photoshop, enrolled in a few design classes, joined some design challenges and I was on my way! Ten years later, and here I am, in my third year running The DigiCrafter!
One of the biggest things that having a hobby blog has given me is a connection to the outside world! For the past 10 years, I’ve been a stay at home mom and that has included one child with Autism. There have been some tough times over these years, but my hobby blog and the connections I’ve made, helped me get through it! It was a creative outlet for me. It was connecting with people who like what I had to share and loved my creations! This was a boost that every mom needs in the middle of tough days! And it has provided an extra income for little things. I remember one year, I paid for all of my son’s preschool tuition with the money I earned! I loved that! It felt great to contribute, especially to something I could see he loved so much!
Now its your turn! What hobby do you love and feel that you could share with others? What service do you feel you have to offer? What can you teach, sew, crochet, design, etc. that will be of value? I promise, there is something! Even if you don’t feel you have the confidence yet, think about it! You may see that as much as you may benefit from starting a hobby blog, there may be others out there who will benefit even more from what YOU have to offer!
But where would I even start?
That’s probably what you are asking me right now! And I’m glad you did! I have two things for you that have been invaluable in my process!
First thing is you need someone to teach you all the little details of getting started. You know, the important things, like setting up a blog, getting a domain, writing your first post, etc. And I’m going to be that person! Every week, on Wednesdays, I’ll have different ideas, tips, freebies and more to share with you! Consider me your personal mentor! And because I’ve been around the block a time or two, I also know lots of great trainings out there and will recommend my favorites. Yes, some of them may give me a little money for referring you to them, but please know that I will only share the ones I’ve tried and know to be worth your while! And most of them have free trainings that you can get a lot from, whether you choose to upgrade to their paid classes is completely up to you!
And a word on free course versus paid ones! Here is what I have learned in the last 10 years! There is value in paying for some of them! I have taken probably hundreds of free courses, email trainings, webinars, etc. And I’ve learned stuff from all of them! But the biggest thing I’ve learned are the ones who I connect best with! And those are the ones I ultimately have invested some money into their more in depth trainings. And I’ve never regretted it! Yes, I always learned new things in the free trainings, but the knowledge and the connections I’ve made by going deeper into the ones I trusted–that was what made the biggest difference!
So, I’ll share lots of info about these as the weeks go on. Try out the free trainings and see what you think! You may take what you learn and move on or you may find those teachers who have just the message you’re looking for!
Now the Second thing that has been invaluable to me is my handy dandy Blogging Bible! It is mostly like a planner that I use and keep in my purse, but it also contains my need to know stuff for my blog. I use it to plan posts, to make lists, to plan projects, etc. And I’m going to share it with you today! It’s a PDF format so you can easily print at home or send it off to be printed. It is in the size of the Happy Planner, so you can add the pages to your own planner or make it separate (which is what I do), but I find it to be my favorite size to carry with me! As a mom who is constantly in the car or waiting for kids, this is when I do my planning! We have to multi-task whenever we can, right?
Have I convinced you yet?
Are you ready to take your hobby to the next level and start sharing it with the world? Great!
If you are wanting to start with a blogger account and keep it free and basic, then you’ll enjoy my post and video about setting up a blogger account. But I’m going to be completely honest with you. If you have any desire to turn this into a future business venture, you don’t want to start here. Sure its free and pretty easy, but at some point, as you grow and want your own domain, you’ll need to transfer all your content and that isn’t easy nor necessarily free! The first time I tried it, I accidentally deleted my entire blogger blog and lost 2 years worth of posts! But it’s up to you and I want to give you all the options!
If you know you want to start with a domain and are ready to invest a little money (a domain and a year’s worth of hosting is about $120-$150 depending on who you find as a host), then I recommend this FREE blog course by Chelsea! In just a few days and a few easy steps, she’ll walk you through the basics for getting a domain, finding a hosting service and setting up your first blog!
And last of all, quickly fill out the form below so I can send you the password to my Resource Library! I have a section there for planner printables and you can find the Blog Bible there to download! You may also find a few other goodies you’ll find of use!
