THIS TUTORIAL IS FOR DIGITAL SCRAPPERS, CRAFTERS, AND ANYONE INTERESTED IN USING DIGITAL FILES TO CREATE YOUR OWN ARTISTIC CUSTOM BANNER! GRAB THE FREE MINI KIT AND BANNER TEMPLATE TO TRY THE TECHNIQUE FOR YOURSELF.
I LOVE Banners! They are a great way to decorate for any occasion. Plus they are easy to make and don’t take a lot of supplies or time! One of my favorite techniques is to use a digital scrapbook kit to customize my banner. Both the mini and the banner template I use for this tutorial can be found in my Resource Library. Today I will be making a 4th of July template to use for my front door! I can’t wait to hang it up and celebrate a little Red, White and Blue this week!
I started with my two Template pieces that are just a PNG file on an 8.5×11 canvas. They are saved on one layer, so the first thing I want to do is create each one on their own layer. In any photo editing software, you can open the file and click one of the shapes with a magic wand tool to put the marching ants around it.
Next, right click and choose the option to “Cut”.
If you look at them in the layers panel, you’ll notice they are each on their own layer:
Now you can pull in Digital Papers (using the Place Feature) to clip to each template piece. I created my first two with two pieces of patterned papers from my 4th of July mini:
I saved these as a JPEG as Banner 1. I printed 3 of these on card stock.
Next, I covered the pieces with two different, coordinating papers and added an element to each, along with a shadow to give it a little dimension:
I saved these also as a JPEG as Banner 2. I printed 2 of these on card stock.
Finally, I covered the pieces one more time with two patterned papers and added two different elements:
These were saved as a JPEG as Banner 3 and I printed 2 of these on card stock.
Once printed and cut out, they are ready to assemble. You can use ribbon, string, sew them together, any way you choose to turn into a banner! I used curling ribbon and added streamers of them between every other banner piece.
Now hang and enjoy!
To make this yourself, you can find the template pieces (including the banner pieces I made) in the DIGITAL CRAFT section of the library. The mini kit will be at the top of the list of mini’s!
